Plus-Size Sustainable Fashion

Updated: Nov 7, 2020

When I put up my Instagram/blog post about sustainable fashion on a budget a few weeks ago, it was brought to my attention that a lot of these options weren't available for people who are plus-sized.

I had the privilege while writing that post and throughout my daily life of not having to consider whether a brand will stock my size, averaging a 10/12, it would be very unusual for a brand not too. Though I am on the taller side and that comes with its own problems (my butt hanging out of skirts more often than I'd like - no shame, just not for me!), it's nowhere near the level of lack of products that are available for plus-sized women and people.

Charity and vintage shops quite often aren't an option either, as items in bigger sizes are few and far between and sometimes snatched up by smaller women wanting to wear something oversized!

That all being said, I've done some research and yikes, the sustainable fashion movement needs to step up its game! To be honest, I'd say it's up to plus-size fashion consumers to demand better. Write to brands that you'd like to stock larger sizes, show them that there is an interest and a market for larger sizes. Though it sucks that your options are tiny at the moment, hopefully your voice can make a change.

Now without further ado, here are the few brands I was able to find. Please contact me with any more if you are aware of them. I've only listed Europe based brands due to carbon-impact, however the options are very limited, so I've included some links to some other blog posts that list brands mainly based in the US. Additionally, since the brands were already so few and far between, I wasn't able to stick to more "budget" items, but hopefully, you can find something new!
